The 3rd International Conference for the PEOPLE project, Tips to top Reconciliation: Work it out, home it in ... por una conciliacion compartida took place the 14th October 2010 in Seville. One of the main results was the creation of the Digital Library (http://people-eu-worklife.wikispaces.com/) on PEOPLE Sub-objective number 1 (SO1). Read on for a summary of the key postings to the site.

The Regional Government of Andalusia collected the key documents at European, Spanish and Andalusian levels. Other PEOPLE regions contributed by sending, their most relevant documentation on SO1 in their region. The Sub-Objective nº 1 PEOPLE Wiki is a fundamental tool, on a regional, national and European perspective, to work on reconciliation from policies and resources available in Europe.

The main documents to review are:

1.       GENDER INDICATORS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

This document has been produced by the Regional Ministry for Equality and Social Welfare, as responsible partner for Sub-objective nº 1. It is very useful document to understand the general gender breakdown for combined working hours in Europe. Results clearly indicate the difference between women and men in terms of unpaid working hours. In fact, although an increasing number of women counts on upper academic background, what is socially expected for them at home often remains much the same. Frequently referred to as women’s “double shift”, these demands tend to limit period of free time women have and to perpetuate gender stereotypes.

All Statistics are available in English, French and German. As an example, we can find the document on Reconciliation between work, private and family life in the European Union, which presents the main European figures about Reconciliation in several fields, like the labour market for those aged between 25 and 49 years old, the division of time, participation in paid and unpaid family work, family responsibilities and care services, leave and family responsibilities and working flexibilities.

The European Commission has published this report about the importance of the increase of the flexibility of working time, which is an important element of the European employment strategy. Secondly, flexibility in working time arrangements affects the total workforce and is therefore an important issue.
